The Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission is a neutral administrative agency created by statute in 1965 to enforce the public policy of the state against discrimination.  The principal function of the NEOC is to receive, investigate and pass upon charges of unlawful discrimination occurring anywhere within the State of Nebraska in the areas of Employment, Housing, and Public Accommodations.

The Equal Opportunity Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Governor. Terms of members shall be three years. As the terms of the members expire, the Governor appoints or reappoints the members of the commission for a term of three years to succeed the members whose terms expire. The commission elects one member to serve as chairperson of the commission.

The commission maintains its principal office in the city of Lincoln and such other offices within the state as it may deem necessary. At this time, it has offices in Omaha and Scottsbluff. The commission may meet and function at any place within the state. The commission appoints an executive director who is directly responsible to the commission. The executive director appoints such assistants, clerks, agents, and other employees as he/she may deem necessary.

Vision Statement:  The vision of the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission is the elimination of unlawful discriminatory practices in the state via effective case processing and public education activities.

Mission Statement:  The mission of the agency is to receive, investigate, and make decisions on charges of unlawful employment, housing, and public accommodations practices occurring within the boundaries of the State of Nebraska.  The agency principles include:  1) Dealing with all Nebraska citizens in a respectful and timely manner; 2) Recognizing that the government has a role to play in guaranteeing equal opportunity and treatment of all Nebraska citizens in the employment, housing, and public accommodations arenas; 3) Ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is disseminated to the public; and 4) Providing quality service to the public.
